It was such a special weekend, the dream of bringing motorsport back to Goodwood now a reality, and the first step on a journey that would take the Estate to the revival of the circuit and a Festival that would later become the biggest gathering of historic cars and bikes on earth.
The first event was a hay-bale visitor attraction, without the pomp and ceremony (and marketing budget) of the modern event, so the first FoS programme reflects that. Considered as something of a ‘hens tooth’ to collectors, this programme also includes the race card, and the cover of the programme has been signed by some of the most important contributors to the founding FoS; Stirling Moss, John Surtees (who won’t thank me for remembering he came off his ride up the hill directly in front of me), Ron Dennis and Nick Mason.
